Open Gardens

Open Gardens is an initiative which opensto the general public the most beautiful gardens of Città Alta and Città Bassa. It is a project which invitesgarden enthusiasts to visit and admire,for free, the most breath-taking green oases in Bergamo, which are usually not open to the publicbecause of private property laws. The gardens are selected to represent different styles, such as vegetable gardens, Italian gardens, British gardens and contemporary gardens. They are also selected to show their owners’ love and dedication for their green space.

9:00 am Starting from Piazza Duomo, No. 5, Città Alta

1. Garden of the Bishop's House, Piazza Duomo 5 
2. Garden of the Benedictine Monastery of Santa Grata, Via Arena 24
3. Contemporary English Garden, No. 14B, via Tassis
4. Terraced garden at the foot of San Vigilio Castle, No. 15A, San Vigilio
5. Terraced garden which once cultivated artichokes, No. 15, via Torni

Sunday 18 September

The stages of the tour:
9:00 am Starting from No. 49, via Tasso, Bergamo

1. Creative garden, Palazzo Zanchi, at No. 49, via Tasso (open from 7 to 25 September)
2. Fruit and vegetable garden of via San Tomaso
3. ‘Ca Rossa’ Italian and English park. Dramatic staircase with seventeenth-century backdrop, No. 9, via Valle
4. Creative Garden, No. 1, via Mazzola Ghisleni (lower Borgo Canale area)

Discover Piscine&Natura Garden, No. 1, via Cifrondi from 7 to 25 September (8.30 a.m. - 6 p.m.)


A picnic to taste the zest for life is scheduled on Saturday, September 10th, at 5.30 pm at 255 Raw Gallery, in Palazzo Zanchi, in the heart of the lower town of Bergamo, in via Tasso 49, curated by Istituto Alberghiero iSchool. An occasion also to taste the Donizetti Wild Spriss, the official cocktail of I Maestri del Paesaggio, and to preview the exhibition dedicated to the private gardens that will open their doors the following weekend.

It will be possible to visit the gardens independently presenting the ticket at the entrance during the opening hours (9.00 am to 12:30 pm). Alternatively, one can follow Architect Adele Sironi who will guide the tour starting at 9.00 am on both days (please check the point of departure)
